Semrush vs. Ahrefs vs. WebsiteGlue for local SEO and local AI
Semrush and Ahrefs study the whole web. WebsiteGlue scores your local market for Google and AI answers from $19 a month. See the costs side by side.

Semrush and Ahrefs sell SEO suites built to study the whole web. A local retailer weighing either one has a narrower question: when someone nearby searches for what you sell, who shows up in Google and in AI answers, and how do you get there? WebsiteGlue answers that question one market at a time, for $19 a month on AI Insights. A Semrush setup that covers the same two jobs starts at $238.95 a month. The Ahrefs version starts at $328.
This post compares the three for a business that sells to people within driving distance. Every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page or help docs, checked November 3, 2026.
Why is WebsiteGlue best for local SEO and local AI results?
WebsiteGlue scores the businesses you compete with for local customers, using the signals local search and AI tools read, and ranks the fixes by the points they add. A general SEO suite can do parts of this. WebsiteGlue puts it in one scan built around your market.
It starts with the businesses Google shows for your service
You enter a city or ZIP and an industry. WebsiteGlue pulls the 10 businesses with their own websites that Google ranks highest for that search and audits each one. AI Insights lets you add up to 3 competitors by website, and Pro lets you add 5. You skip building a competitor list by hand.
It scores what local answers draw on
BrightLocal's Local AI Visibility Study analyzed 1.9 million citations from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews for local searches. Business websites made up 42% of them, and Google Business Profiles made up 28.5%. WebsiteGlue scores both for every business in the scan. On the Google side it reads rating, review count, how recent the newest review is, hours and the owner's photos. On the website side it reads schema, headings written as customer questions, FAQ content and AI crawler access.
It ranks the fixes and tracks your progress
Your AI ready score runs from 0 to 100, and each point comes with the reason you earned or missed it. Paid plans list fixes by the points they add, ask Perplexity a live question about your market, and chart your score from one monthly scan to the next.
What Semrush and Ahrefs do well
Both tools index the whole web. They estimate keyword volumes and traffic, map backlinks, audit sites and track rankings. If you write content to win searches across the country, or you need to know who links to a competitor, they do that work. WebsiteGlue doesn't.
Both now sell local and AI pieces too:
- Semrush's Local toolkit costs $30 a month per location on Base and $60 on Pro, billed annually. Base manages your Google Business Profile with an AI agent, publishes posts, replies to reviews and includes a Map Rank Tracker (Semrush Local pricing).
- Semrush's SEO Toolkit starts at $139.95 a month on Pro, and its AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain (Backlinko, a Semrush company).
- Ahrefs starts at $129 a month on Lite. Its Brand Radar AI add-on, which tracks how AI tools mention your brand, starts at $199 a month. Its plan list includes a GBP Monitor in beta (Ahrefs pricing).
Ahrefs also lists a $29 Starter plan, with no detailed limits on its pricing page.
Where the big suites fall short for a local retailer
The gap is scope. Semrush and Ahrefs audit one site per project. Semrush Pro holds 5 projects, and Ahrefs Lite allows 5 projects for sites you haven't verified as yours, which is where competitors go. To compare yourself with 10 local competitors, you add them yourself and read the results across separate reports. Neither tool puts the Google profiles and websites of the businesses Google shows for your service into one scored report.
Costs stack up the same way. Semrush prices its SEO, Local and AI toolkits as separate line items, and Ahrefs sells AI tracking as an add-on. A one-location shop that wants competitor audits plus AI visibility pays $238.95 a month at Semrush or $328 at Ahrefs, before adding users.

With one location and the two default boxes ticked, WebsiteGlue costs $19 a month, Semrush $238.95 and Ahrefs $328. That's $228 a year against $2,867.40 and $3,936 at monthly billing. Tick keyword research or listings and WebsiteGlue drops out, because it offers neither. Semrush covers all four for $268.95 a month at one location.
When Semrush or Ahrefs is the better pick
Choose Semrush or Ahrefs if your customers search from beyond your area, you publish content to rank across the country, or you need backlink data. Choose Semrush Local if you want software to manage your Google profile and post for you.
You can also run both kinds of tool. WebsiteGlue's $19 a month costs less than Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 or Ahrefs' Brand Radar AI at $199, so pairing it with a suite you already pay for adds the local market scan for less than either AI add-on.
WebsiteGlue fits best when your customers live nearby and you want to see where you stand against the shops they'd call instead, in Google and in AI answers, with a list of what to fix first.

Why is WebsiteGlue best for local SEO and local AI results?
WebsiteGlue scores one local market at a time. It audits the 10 businesses Google shows for your service in your city, scores each Google Business Profile and website on the signals local search and AI tools read, and ranks the fixes by the points they add. AI Insights costs $19 a month for 5 scans.
Can WebsiteGlue replace Semrush or Ahrefs?
For scoring where a local business stands against its local competitors in Google and AI answers, yes. WebsiteGlue doesn't do keyword volume research, backlink analysis or listing management, so a business that needs those will still want Semrush or Ahrefs.
Does Semrush track AI answers?
Semrush sells an AI Visibility Toolkit for $99 a month per domain, priced separately from its SEO Toolkit (from $139.95 a month on Pro) and its Local toolkit (from $30 per location a month, billed annually).
Does Ahrefs have local SEO tools?
Ahrefs lists a GBP Monitor in beta in its plans, which start at $129 a month on Lite. Its main strength is whole-web keyword and backlink data. Brand Radar AI, which tracks how AI tools mention your brand, starts at $199 a month.
